JAMES OSAMU URAGAMI

James O Uragami or Jimmy, age 84, peacefully passed away in Fresno, Ca. on Monday June 25, 2007. He was born March 2, 1923 in Los Angeles to Eiji and Kinuyo Uragami. He graduated from Susan Miller Dorsey High School in 1941. In May 1942, under Executive order 9066, he was relocated to Santa Anita Race Track Assembly Center where he resided for 6 months with his parents, two brothers, and one sister in one room of a multiple room tar paper shack and then entrained to Granada, Co., Amache Relocation Center. He left Amache in February 1943 and moved to Layton where he helped share crop. He married Lula Michiyo Kanno in October 1944.

Jimmy was called to serve in the US Army in February 1945. He served 21 months in the Army, part of which (10 months) was spent outside the states in the signal corp as a photographer. He was a Tech/3rd (Staff Sgt) and was discharged October 16, 1946. He returned to Utah and started farming with the Kanno family in Syracuse, West Jordan, Lehi and American Fork. In the spring of 1952 he moved to West Point and worked at Hill Air Force Base. In 1955, he moved to Clearfield, Utah, where he resided for about 50 years. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1976, and then enjoyed working for Weber State University for 6 years in maintenance. He resided in Montana from 1995 to 2003 and then moved to Fresno, Ca.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and being in the outdoors. Also enjoyed woodworking and welding hobbies.

Jimmy was a member of the Ogden Japanese Christian Church, American Legion, and Japenese American Citizens League. Also a life time member of the National Rifle Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Handymans Club.

He is survived by his loving companion of over 30 years, Mary Kamigaki, brother Robert and his wife Rumi, sons Ronald and Steven, daughters Marilyn, Geraldine and her husband Gordon. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lula, brother Thomas, and sister Tazuko.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., with The Reverend Russell W. Durler officiating.

Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
