James “Jim” T. Soter

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 30, 2015 after a valiant fight with brain cancer. He was born in Ogden, Utah on April 25, 1956 the son of Tom J. and Maria Thiros Soter. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1975.
Jim married Joy Stauffer on July 26, 1975 in Ogden, Utah. They were later sealed for time and all eternity on February 19, 1977 in the Ogden LDS Temple. Together they raised four children.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings including Stake High Council, Bishop, and his most favorite, Ward Clerk.
Jim was a commercial painter for several years working with his brother-in-law Brent Stauffer at Stauffer Painting. The last 25 years he worked at Wasatch Distributing as a Sales Manager where he enjoyed making friendships with numerous retailers and suppliers as well as his colleagues from other distributors. He loved his interactions with the “guys” and those relationships meant more to him than anyone will ever know.
He was an avid LA Laker, Dodger, and Weber State fan and proud longtime member of the Weber State Wildcat Club. He enjoyed his many camping and fishing trips with the family especially the annual Flaming Gorge trip. He enjoyed traveling in his 5 th wheel with his wife to many National Parks including Bryce Canyon, Arches, and Zion’s being his most favorite.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joy of 40 years; four children, Cami (Jeremy) Barlow, Holly (Zac) Michaelson, J. T. (Diane) Soter, and Ashlee (Mark) Jones, his mother, Maria Soter; three sisters, Angie (Jim) Soderquist, Kris (Mike) Guischer, and Jo (Ed) Lindquist; many nieces and nephews, and Grandpa’s “Boys”, his grandsons, Zac, Cavin, Jaxton, Cian, Mekhi, and Payton. He was preceded in death by his father, Tom Soter; his cousin, John Delis; and brother-in-law, Mack Spaulding.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Washington Terrace 5 th Ward Chapel, 350 West 5100 South. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
Our family would like to thank his caregiver’s Rachel and daughter-in-law Diane, our many neighbors, friends, and ward members for their commitment, support, and efforts to our family this past year. A special thanks to Rich and Kathy Peterson, Mike and Jennifer Siegel, and Tyler and Lisa Peterson for their selfless generosity and unwavering support for our family.
