Jan Patricia Champneys McFarland
March 25, 1951 ~ August 10, 2015
WILLARD – Jan Patricia Champneys McFarland, 64, returned home to her Heavenly Father in the comfort of her home on Monday, August 10, 2015 surrounded by her family. In her final trial on this earth she fought a courageous battle with Leukemia.
She was born in Ogden, Utah on March 25, 1951, a daughter of Irl I. and Donna Patricia Brown Champneys. She married Val Dee McFarland, the love of her life and her eternal companion on April 24, 1970 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple one month after he returned from his mission. He died in a tractor accident on October 10, 1973. She married E. Conrad Maw on May 6, 1977 in West Weber, Utah. He died on December 24, 1988 from cancer.
She graduated from Weber High School and LDS seminary where she was active in Future Homemakers of America, ski club, and the senior council. She attended Weber State University. She completed her Dental Assistant Certification from Hill Air Force Base and had a successful career providing for her family in the Dental and Orthodontic field.
She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed cooking, shopping, snow skiing, boating, traveling, home decorating and diet coke. Our mother’s life was centered around her “boys” and her grandchildren. Nothing was closer to her heart than her family. Providing a nice home for her children was a priority to her and she did just that. Having family dinners and gatherings at her home was something she continually strived for as she loved her children and grandchildren dearly.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various callings. Mom was the cornerstone of our family leading us in gospel principles and teaching us right from wrong. Her testimony and strength was shared with her family often. Throughout the many difficult trials in her life she maintained an unwavering faith in her Lord Jesus Christ and the Plan of Salvation knowing that families can be together forever.
Surviving her are two sons, Cody (Sheri) McFarland of Plain City and Michael (Trisha) McFarland of Plain City; six grandchildren, Colton, McKenzie, Lindsie, Gage, Crew, and one expected in February. Also surviving, her mother Donna Champneys of North Ogden; three sisters, Debra Manley of North Ogden, Diane Hall of North Ogden, and Dana Mook of Henderson, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Val Dee McFarland and E. Conrad Maw; and her father, Irl I. Champneys.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Willard LDS Stake Center, 8230 South Highway 89, Willard, UT. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Willard LDS Stake Center. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to all family and friends who helped support and care for our mother during this final trial in her life.
In Lieu of flowers and according to our mothers wishes donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, jdrf.org, on behalf of her grandson Gage Michael McFarland.
