Jana Lee Whiting Davies

Jana Lee Whiting Davies passed beyond this life to The Spirit World peacefully Monday, October 30, 2017.  She succumbed to heart failure after a long and valiant struggle.   In her own words, she lived as long as life was sweet.

Jana was born January 9, 1943 in Provo, Utah to Charles Ernest Whiting and Donna Ashcraft Whiting.  She was raised in Springville, Utah and was the fifth of six children in her family.   Jana was involved in many activities growing up.  She loved running, ballet and dance as a child.  During these very early years she was afflicted with Polio that affected her later in life.

During high school she participated in choir and was elected a senior class officer. She graduated from Springville high school in 1961.

Upon graduating from high school, she attended Brigham Young University.  She was chosen to be a member of the BYU Cougarettes as a freshman.

While a student at Brigham Young, she met David LeRoi Davies from Provo, Utah. They were married May 4, 1962 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Dave graduated that month and shortly thereafter they moved to Hillspring Alberta, Canada.    They welcomed their first daughter Karrie Lynn while living in Canada.

After a year in Canada they moved to Nephi, Utah where she welcomed her first son David Kay.  In 1967, they moved to the Ogden Utah area. Jed Ernest was born the next year.

While pregnant with Jed she was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was a very difficult time for her.  She experienced many miracles and many prayers were answered during this time.  She went through several heavy bouts of cobalt radiation treatments.  These treatments severely damaged her heart and would lead to a diagnosis of congestive heart failure in the last years of her life.

While raising her family Jana worked for the IRS for over 20 years. In 1977 the family moved to North Ogden, Utah and soon after were joined by Audra Michelle and Jennifer Lee. In the 1990’s Jana and Dave relocated to Kaysville, Utah and added Dakota to the family.

Jana was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. She loved going to sporting events and watching her husband coach and her children and grandchildren compete. One of her favorite sports memories was stepping in to coach the high school wrestling team when Dave was sidelined.  Jana loved oil painting, remodeling, reading and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, David L Davies, her sisters LaRue (James)Beardall, and Pauline (Douglas) Todd, as well as her sons David (Kailyn) and Jed (Nicole), her daughters Michelle(Nolan) Cragun, Jennifer Spencer, and Dakota (Chris).  She leaves behind 23 beautiful grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Jana was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Donna Whiting, her daughter Karrie Mumford, her brother Rondo Whiting and sisters Arlene Antonino and Cleo Ostler.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Country Mill Ward, 925 Deseret Drive, Kaysville, Utah.  Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
