Jane Arave

Jane Arave Jane Arave passed away on July 11, 2012 after a protracted battle with pancreatic cancer. Throughout her life, she awed those who knew her with her strength, fortitude, biting wit, and will to continue on in even the worst circumstances. Jane was born on July 7, 1939 in Ogden, Utah to David and Lila Bates Murray. She married the love of her life, Raymond Arave, on October 21, 1967 and together they raised a large family. In 1974, Jane and Ray joined Alcoholics Anonymous together and successfully maintained their commitment to sobriety throughout the rest of their lives. Jane built a successful career as a sales representative and, ultimately, administrative assistant for Avon. She retired from the company after over 20 years, a time in which she made many friends from among colleagues and clients. She and Ray purchased land at Sourdough in Ogden Canyon, a plot dotted with sage brush and quaking aspens, and enjoyed many years of fun that included fishing, hunting, camping, and snowmobiling. Family was intensely important to her and she took pride in its expansion by children and grandchildren. She loved meeting up with loved ones for lunch and, up to the end, she insisted on maintaining her green lawn. On July 7, 2012, she celebrated her 74th birthday with a massive backyard barbecue, surrounded by those whose lives she had touched. Jane is survived by scores of loved ones, including: children Linda Ann Stoeckl, Binks Smith, Marilyn Anderson, Raymond Brett and Susan Arave, Cindy and Rob Hershberger, and Dale and Becky Arave; siblings Rhoda Day, Ann Crandall, and Jim Terry; and 23 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and dozens of other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Arave, children Kim Jacobs and Mike Anderson, grandchildren Michael Lynn Anderson, Preston Anderson, and Cameron Russell and brothers Dan Murray and Kenneth Parmenter. Per Jane’s request, Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Cremation entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Encompass/Alpine Hospice who took such excellent care of Jane.
