Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Janet Turton Goodwin passed away, at the age of 89, on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, due to complications from gall bladder surgery with pancreatitis.

Janet was born on June 25, 1923 to John Ellis Turton and Fannie Gertrude Davis Turton in Providence, Rhode Island. She graduated from high school in Providence in 1942.

During World War II she worked for the Navy Department in Washington D. C. at the Pentagon and at Georgetown University.

Janet married Bernard Lewis Goodwin on November 18, 1950 in East St. Louis, Illinois. Janet and Bernard had four children. They moved to Roy, Utah in 1960.

Janet worked part-time as a bookkeeper and was active in church and community programs including the Catholic Council of Women and Girl Scouts. Janet was known for her boundless energy. She was always busy with her garden and orchard, her canning, sewing, pie making, music, crafts, and especially caring for her children and grandchildren. She loved camping, traveling, and hosting parties and gatherings of family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bernard, two sons and two daughters: Michael (Lynne) Goodwin of North Ogden; Linda Bingham (Dennis) of Riverdale; Deborah Goodwin of Kirkland, WA; and Andrew (Patricia) Goodwin of Roy. Janet is also survived by five much loved grandchildren: Jeremy (Alisha) Bingham of West Haven, Melanie Fry (Chad) of Lakeland, GA; Robert Goodwin of Eugene, OR; Samantha Goodwin of Roy, and Nicholas Goodwin, also of Roy, as well as four cherished great-grandchildren. Janet is also survived by three sisters, Jacqueline Sousa, Dolores Martini, and Eleanor McCarthy, all of Rhode Island. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, George and Alden, and her sister, Priscilla Parker.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 28th at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South from 6 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral will be held on Monday, April 29th at noon at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4050 South 3900 West in West Haven. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Janet''s memory to the nonprofit Treehouse Children''s Museum at 347 22nd Street, Ogden, Utah 84401.
