Janet Thornock Hammer

August 22, 1927 ~ March 31, 2015

Janet Thornock Hammer, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 after a short illness. She was born in Geneva, Idaho on August 22, 1927 to Milton Thomas and Mary Madgdalena Strobelt Thornock. She grew up in Bloomington, Idaho where she attended grade school. Her parents then moved to Ogden where she attended and graduated from Ogden High School.

She married Louis Clyde Hammer on October 15, 1945.  Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 16, 1965. Louis and Janet settled in Ogden.  They spent 66 years together before Louis passed away on December 27, 2011.

Janet was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully in many positions. She had a strong testimony of her Savior and shared it often with her family. She was a woman of great faith.

Her greatest joy was tending her grandchildren, spending time with family, and attending their various activities and sporting events. She was an avid Utah Jazz fan and enjoyed watching them play. Most recently she was a great Weber High Football fan as her grandson is head coach for the Warriors. She sat through many home games rain or shine.

Janet is survived by her sons, Louis Brent and Trudie Hammer, Douglas and Leslie Hammer, and Teryl and Kandy Hammer; daughter, Sharon and David Burland; 15 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Guy (Joy) Thornock; and sisters, Gay (Jay) Jensen and Cheryl (Jim) Wilcox. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Hammer; granddaughter, Lisa Hammer; parents, Milton and Lena Thornock; sister, LaNore Pugmire; and brother, Paul Thornock.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Monday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
