LAYTON a" Janet Summerill Johnson, 61, peacefully passed away Friday, August 27, 2010. She was born November 1, 1948, in Ogden, UT, the daughter of Claude Lloyd and Norine Buck Summerill. Janet was married to Phillip Wendel Johnson on June 7, 1971 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they were later divorced.
Janet graduated with a Masters Degree in Physical Education from BYU. She began her career as a teacher in the Weber School District (1971-1977) and then taught and administrated in the Davis School District (1992-2006). Janet worked for Layton City Recreation from 1977-1992 where she oversaw their successful girls'' recreation program. She was a member of the Utah Sports Officials Hall of Fame. She had a great impact on the Layton City Community.
She was a lifelong member of the LDS Church and held many callings, but her favorite was Stake Camp Director which she served for many years in Layton. Her hobbies included camping, fishing, and many outdoor activities. She loved all sports, especially tennis. Her energy and enthusiasm had a lasting impact on many. Our mom, though dedicated to her career, always made time to support us in all of our education and sporting activities. We were always her top priority; she made us who we are today.
Janet is survived by son Jace (Shanna) Johnson; daughters Leigh Worsley; Lindsay (Josh) Brown; five grandchildren with one on the way; and her sister Margo (Arnold) Eberhard. Preceded in death by her parents.
