Janet Olson Lokken
March 17, 1937 - January 27, 2016
Janet was born in Windom, MN. Her family is grateful for her vivid stories of farm life and
adventure. Janet upheld and shared family and Scandinavian traditions by capturing their
importance and meaning. Each holiday contained beautifully handcrafted items that she had
made or collected. These traditions have been adopted and shared by her children as well as her
grandchildren. Janet made sure that her children and grandchildren each had a handcrafted item
that they could treasure and share with others.
Janet raised her two sons as a single mom and set the standard as a first generation Hockey
Mom. Janet was the first woman elected to the Salt Lake Amateur Hockey Association Board
(SLAHA). Janet was always busy working, volunteering, or indulging in craft projects. She was
an avid University of Utah fan, though this paled by comparison to her pride in her own children
and grandchildren as they pursued the sports of soccer, hockey, kayaking and canoeing. A
highlight of Janet’s life was working in the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics. She cherished the
memories, trading pins and excitement of what she experienced. Janet’s love of life, sense of
humor and laughter was simply contagious. She will be dearly missed, but we are all fortunate
to have been a part of her life.
Janet’s family would like to extend an special thank you to Willow Wood Care Center and the
staff that lovingly cared for her.
Janet is survived by her sons, Eric Lokken and Greg Lokken and five grandchildren.
