Janet Harris Low
March 17, 1929 ~ April 17, 2015
Janet Harris Low danced into heaven on April 17, 2015. She left this mortal life with the grit and grace that defined her.
Janet, born on March 17, 1929 in Salt Lake City, was the beloved only child of Charles and Burdette Harris. She was raised in Cache Valley where she met and married her eternal sweetheart W. Blair Low in the Logan LDS Temple in 1949.
Janet lived a life defined by her service to others. She served in the LDS Relief Society and Young Women organizations. Janet served an LDS mission with Blair to the Rockford, Illinois area. She was a determined and detailed genealogist. It is because of her fortitude and faith that our family has come to know and honor our ancestors. Janet’s commitment to her children was endless. She cared for them constantly. Having five girls meant a constant stream of projects in the “sewing room.” She made back to school clothes, ballet costumes, and custom designed formals. She made doll clothes and dollhouses. Janet also taught her daughters to work and to serve…family, friends, and strangers.
In a moment of characteristic wit, when asked to give advice to her posterity on her 86 th birthday, Janet declared, “Get more money!” As one of her granddaughters reflected on this statement, she realized that great monetary wealth was one of the few things that Janet did not treasure in this life. She cherished greater things: her sweetheart, five daughters, twenty-two grandchildren (who have the fondest memories of Grandma's dinner rolls), and twenty-seven great-grandchildren whom she lovingly referred to as her “little people”. She was blessed with intelligence, a beautiful alto voice, a wry sense of humor, emotional strength, and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Who could ask for more?
Janet is survived by her five daughters, Jana (John) Mullen, Connie Louise spencer, Kathryn (Dale) Webb, Rosanne (Ron) Ashmore, and Marlene (Mike) Westbroek; 20 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her eternal dance partner, Blair, and twin granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Lewis 6 th Ward Chapel, 1150 N. Monroe Blvd. Ogden. At Janet’s request, there will be no viewing.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the LDS Humanitarian Fund.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the many caregivers who have helped Janet through the past several years of illness. Our special thanks to Dr. Gary Holland. You all gave willingly of your expertise, and most of all, your heart and soul.
Janet is now unlimited to do all that she desires. We know she will once again be looking after each of us. Keep dancing, Mom and Dad!
