Janica Pantone

Janica Olsen Pantone 11/16/1932 ~ 12/5/2013

Janica Olsen Pantone was released from the burden of her earthly body on December 5, 2013. She passed away from complications due to infection and heart disease.

Jani was born in Ogden, Utah, on November 16, 1932, to Harold E. "Pop" and Eleanor B. Ford "Rosie" Olsen. She married Donald M. Pantone on June 5, 1952, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Jani loved her family. She was so proud of the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved horses, skiing, and flowers. She reigned as the 1951 Miss Rodeo Ogden, participating in many 24th of July parades and serving on Miss Rodeo Ogden and Utah committees. She began skiing as a young girl and taught her children to ski, spending many "bluebird"days at Snowbasin, Park City, and Jackson Hole. She worked on the Historic 25th Street project, restoring the Nicholas Building and putting flower pots along 25th Street and in the plaza of Ogden Union Station, winning the Beautify America Award which was presented to her by President Ronald Reagan.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed her years working with the Young Women and scouting. She taught many girls and boys how to camp and have fun in the wilderness.

She loved to travel and went many places in the world with her husband, parents, sister, children, and friends. She especially loved going to the "condo" in Teton Village where she hiked, boated, fished, and skied, reveling in the beauty of the mountains, trees, lakes, and wild flowers.

Through the past 23 years, Jani exemplified strength, courage, and determination. She refused to stop living and doing. Her family is forever grateful for the example she set for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in overcoming trials and doing hard things with a smile on her face. She will be missed, but her legacies will live on with her family. Janica is survived by her husband and children, Lesli (Art) Unrein, Scott (Marj) Pantone, Jill (Scott) Miller, Mark (Lisa) Pantone, Tony (Pam) Pantone, and Matt (Jodi) Pantone; 24 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren; her brother, Corky (Betsy) Olsen; two nephews and four nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Karen O. Downs; her brother-in-law, Keith B. Downs; and a great-grandson, Jacob Moses Pantone.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. The family will meet with friends on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Union Station Foundation, 2501 Wall Ave, Ogden, UT 84401, would be gratefully appreciated.
