Janice Loy Badger Branch

March 11, 1947 — April 9, 2025

Our lovely wife and mother passed away on April 9, 2025, surrounded by loved ones after a 7-year battle with Dementia. She was born on March 11, 1947, to Orson Lloyd and Wanda Ritter Badger. Janice lived a life marked by devotion, faith, and quiet strength.

Janice met her eternal companion from a blind date. She married Duane Scott Branch on June 10, 1971, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They welcomed their first born, Steven Edwin, on September 4, 1974. The arrival of their first daughter was on October 9, 1976. After years of patiently waiting, the arrival of their twins, Stephanie Lee and Melanie Ann, joined their family on May 3, 1982.

Janice served a mission in West Germany for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She later earned a bachelor’s degree from Weber State University in Elementary Education in 1971. While her kids were in school full-time, Janice worked as the Computer Lab Technician for Polk Elementary where she stayed for 25 plus years.

Janice was called to serve as Primary President, Ward and Stake Relief Society President and other callings throughout the years. Her greatest callings in life were wife, mom and grandma. Those who called her grandma are Devon (Savannah) Riggs, Dylan (Elisabeth) Riggs, Dallin Riggs, Steven Bates, Caiden Bates, Austin Rock, Sophia Miller and Olivia Miller. Later she was promoted to great grandma to Stella Riggs and Baylor Riggs.

When not playing with grandkids she enjoyed gardening, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and gospel study. For years, Janice joined her three daughters every Friday at Chick-Fil-A for dinner and laughs. Dad was not allowed to join “girl time”. They had the same corner booth and closed the place down. It was their place to laugh, cry, plan vacations, complain about certain men but it was always a great night.

Janice is survived by her husband, Duane Scott; her children, Janell (Kevin) Riggs, Stephanie (Brian) Bates, and Melanie Rock (Joshua Miller); 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Orson Eldon Badger. She was preceded in death by her son, Steven; her granddaughter, Katelyn; her parents, Orson and Wanda; and sisters-in-law, Sharon Badger and Cheryl Branch.

Janice enjoyed the company of her best friend of over 50 years, Alana Nelson, her best friend/honorary sister. Alana was at mom’s side until the end.

The family would like to thank Shaylee and Jade from A Plus Home Care and Hospice for their love and support, along with Kami and others in Memory Care at The Lodge at North Ogden.

We will cherish all the memories we made with her; she will be greatly missed. We know her reunion with her son and other loved ones was a joyous celebration.
