Janice Faye Cheney passed away peacefully on Monday, May 17, 2010 surrounded by her beloved family. Matriarch of the Cheney family, Janice embraced her role as sister, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and loyal friend. She leaves this life to join her husband and soul mate of 48 years, Steve. Their deep and steadfast love was an inspiration to all those around them and the couple shared many wonderful adventures. Her children and grandchildren fondly recall family camping and fishing trips to Idaho and Wyoming.

Daughter of Richard and Ruth Smith she was born in California on February 11, 1945. Janice Pollack was the second child in a family of five children. She moved with her family to Utah when she was still a child. She later met and married Steve Cheney and they settled in Syracuse. Janice was very close to her mother, Ruth, who later lived with the couple in their Syracuse home.

She is remembered for many things including her love of movies, bowling, playing cards, clowns and trips to Wendover. Her daily Phase 10 games with sister Laura was one of her favorite pastimes. Well known for her skill in the kitchen, Janice''s bran muffins and peanut brittle are legendary. She was well known for her sweet tooth and a quick look around the kitchen would turn up more than one sugary treat.

Holidays were unquestionably her favorite time and Janice always worked to make each one special. From Christmas gatherings to Easter egg hunts, holidays were a time to celebrate her strong sense of home and family. Her celebrations were filled with excitement. Janice made it her mission to find the best Christmas tree or to create a great Halloween experience. Even as her health was failing, She made sure that each family stocking would be filled.

Strong-willed and protective, Janice was the family fortress. She was never afraid to express her thoughts and feelings and always took care of the people she loved. A strong stance accompanied a big heart and she bravely stood up for the things and people she believed in.

She is survived by her three children, Dale (Pam), Mitzi (Erin), and Doug (Heidi); eight grandchildren: Leslie (Ryan) Sorenson, Meghan (Dave) Skelton, Sammie, Jackie, Kennedi, Aspen, Jaxson, and Addison and her siblings: Patricia, Ricki, Laura and Mike; and two great-grandchildren: Emery and Owen. She also leaves behind her much loved feline family members, BJ and Fat Cat.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and great-grandson Maxwell Sorenson.

She signed every greeting card with wide open arms full of x''s and o''s. All of those who loved Janice embrace her spirit and hold close the many wonderful memories we share, we love you Grams, xoxoxoxo
