Janice Peterson Child
December 29, 1928 – October 13, 2016
Janice Peterson Child (87) returned to her Heavenly Father on October 13, 2016.
She was born December 29, 1928, in Ogden, Utah, to Rulon Powell Peterson and Naomi Skeen Peterson. She was the second of six children. She lived in Ogden as a young girl and later moved to Roy where she lived on her father's Hereford Ranch. She was proud of the Peterson Brothers Hereford business her family owned and enjoyed being part of the cattle sale every February.
Janice attended Riverdale Elementary, Weber High School, and graduated with an associate’s degree in teaching from Weber College. After college, she taught third grade for two years at Burch Creek Elementary.
On August 14, 1950, she was married and sealed to the love of her life, Earl Bert Child, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Her new and favorite career became that of being a loving mother and devoted wife. This year Earl and Janice celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. They were rarely apart. Her family was her greatest joy. She took pride in supporting them and seeing them succeed in every facet of their lives. She was a devoted helpmate and supported Earl unconditionally in his service in the Church and in his teaching career. Janice always had a positive outlook on life and looked at the bright side of every problem. She loved to spend time visiting with family, friends and neighbors. Her favorite time of the year was spring, with everything coming to life. She loved flowers of every kind especially: lilacs, tulips, daffodils and roses. Many driving on 4400 South enjoyed her beautiful flower garden. She worked for many years as an election judge in Weber County.
Janice was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in both ward and stake callings. She loved working in the Primary and Relief Society. Her favorite calling for years was serving as a Primary teacher. Earl and Janice served a mission together at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. She was proud of her heritage and family roots and was very loyal to her parents, siblings and relatives. She loved getting together with her siblings and extended family in yearly family reunions to talk about ancestors and visit with cousins and family. Janice spent countless hours doing family history work and left a great treasure of history books and stories. She also loved her monthly meetings with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Janice is survived by her children: Wendell (Nola); Brian (JoDee); Merrill (Lori); Colleen; Carol (Brian); 24 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind two brothers: Lowell S. Peterson (Kathleen) and Wayne S. Peterson (Joan).
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Darrell and Ronald; and sister, Marilyn. Her husband, Earl, passed away four days after she died.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at the Roy 12th Ward Chapel, 4524 South 2525 West, Roy. Friends and family may visit on Friday, October 21, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and on Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
