JANICE IRENE MORELAND LOKEN DICKSON

1933-2014

Janice died February 21, 2014, after a long battle with cancer, at home in the company of beloved family members.  She was born February 3, 1933 during a fierce snowstorm in Knox County, Ohio, twenty minutes before her twin sister, Joann.  Their parents were Lester L. Moreland and Inez Mae Litzenberg.  She attended 12 years of school in Centerburg, Ohio.

In 1945 she met Robert F. Loken, an airman stationed at Portland Air Force Base.  They married in 1956 after he graduated from the Air Force Pilot Training Program as a 2nd Lieutenant.  Their home for ten years was Mountain Home, Idaho, where their five children were born.  Major Loken served 3 tours in Viet Nam, after which the family moved to Arizona, Mississippi, California, and finally Utah.  Bob died in 1977, two years after retiring.

During their marriage, Janice worked as a photographer for many organizations, was a Girl Scout leader, and had many friends in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority (she was a member over 50 years).  She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, canning and other home arts.  She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church.

In 1982, Janice married Lt. Colonel Gerald E. Dickson, Jr. in Layton, Utah.  They shared many interests and spent 28 rewarding years together.  He died in 2010.  His children are Gerald Dickson III, Cathy King, and Diane Dickson.

Jan is survived by her children Emily (Kent) Sayles, Missoula, MT., Raymond (Pam) Loken, West Valley City, UT., Elaine Loken Wyllie, Providence, UT., Valerie (Nicholas) Dimas, Salt Lake City, UT., and Robert J. (Cindy) Loken, Layton, UT.  She also had fourteen grandchildren- Katrina, Jennifer, and Kristopher Loken,  Derek, Scott, and Shawna Sayles, David and Jessica Wyllie, Catherine, Ana, Sophia, and Sarah Dimas, and Sonja and Kodiak Loken.

She is also survived by her cherished twin sister Joann Estes, Portland, OR. and her two brothers David (Debi), and Eddie (June) Moreland, Mt. Vernon, OH., as well as many nieces and nephews.  Jan was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and special brother-in-law Harry Estes.

Janice and her family wish to thank the doctors and nurses at the Huntsman Cancer Center, the CNS Hospice nurses, and especially her devoted son R.J. for their tender care during this difficult journey.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary 1867 N. Fairfield Rd.
