OGDEN – Janis Utley Cox, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at home surrounded by her loved ones. She will be greatly missed. Janis was born September 20, 1919 in Sevier, Utah, to Ray and Maude Ruth Erickson Utley. On June 11, 1943, Janis married her sweetheart, David Raymond Cox in the Manti LDS Temple. They were best friends and devoted companions for 67 years. Janis graduated from BYU with a degree in Education. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher, receiving numerous awards for her loving service. She was a devoted member of the LDS Church, where she served in many capacities. She and David served in the Canadian Winnipeg Mission. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Janis was an accomplished artist, seamstress, and homemaker. She spent countless hours sewing dresses for four of her little girls in their younger years. One of her favorite things was to spend time at their family cabin in Fish Lake. She was deeply devoted to her FAMILY…it was the passion of her life. Surviving are her husband David, her son, Alan (Roxane) Cox, and her five daughters: Karen (Richard) Judd, Dorothy Greene, Cathleen (Steve) Richins, Marcia (Dennis) Anderson, Cindy (Mike) Woolsey, 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Quentin (Norma) Utley and son-in–law John Greene. The family extends special thanks to Peregrine Hospice and Dr. Kathleen DeRemer and staffs. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 11 at 11 a.m. at the Highland LDS Ward Chapel, 1314 – 27th Street, Ogden. Friends and family may visit at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at the Ward Chapel one hour prior to the funeral services. Interment will be at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Humanitarian Fund.
