Jason Alan Thomas passed away at his home Saturday, September 8, 2007, surrounded by his wife and kids. Our loving husband, father, brother, son and friend will be deeply missed. Jason died at the age of 37 from a long and valiant battle with melanoma cancer. He remained strong, courageous and funny to the very end.
He was born June 22, 1970 in Provo, Utah to Alan Reed Thomas and Marie Salisbury Thomas. He later moved to Preston, Idaho where he was raised for 14 years. He then moved to Layton, Utah when he was 15 years old, and later graduated from Layton High School in 1988. He joined the United States Air National Guard in November 1989. Years later he switched from the Army Reserves to the United States Air Force Reserves where he was a TSgt for the 67th Aerial Port Squadron. In 1997, he was accepted into the Police Academy. He graduated from Weber State University in December 1998. He was hired by Ogden City Police May 1999.
On May 25, 1999, Jason married Melanie Asson Holmes in Ogden, Utah. Together they have three amazing children, Dylan Holmes, Dalton Thomas and Taylor Marie Thomas. Jason loved his kids more than anything in the world. He would move heaven and earth to make sure they were safe. His kids were very proud that he was an Ogden City Police Officer.
Jason was an amazing human being, touching the hearts of all who came to know him. He was kind, big hearted, and always willing to help others. He loved camping, riding 4 wheelers, telling stories, going to the City Club for wings, driving his cop car, chasing down the bad guy, being a member of the military and being a really good friend.
Jason is survived by his wife and three kids; his parents, Marie (George) Wilcox, Preston, ID; Alan (Luci) Thomas, Roy; a sister, Michelle (Bret) Morgan, Hooper; a brother, Jeff (Leanne) Thomas, Coeurdalene, ID; his mother-in-law, Peggy Asson, Ogden; two brothers-in-law, Brad (Michelle) Asson and Andrew Asson; three nephews, Austin Thomas, Jake Asson, Chase Asson; two nieces, Elisha Morgan, Paige Morgan; an aunt, Linda Thomas, Salt Lake City; grandmother, Edna Thomas, Salt Lake City. Jason had many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends that he loved very much.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Leonard Dell Asson, grandfather, Reed Thomas, a cousin, Jon Thomas, his Aunt Rose and grandmother Evelyn Schiess.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 14th at 10 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.
Friends and family may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m., at the mortuary.
Interment, Hooper Cemetery.
