Jason Brett Vaughn
May 19, 1970 ~ December 11, 2020
On December 11, 2020 Jason Brett Vaughn passed away unexpectedly at his home in Ogden, Utah.
Jason was born on May 19, 1970 to Ronald and Bonnie Vaughn in Long Beach, California. Jason spent most of his young life in Long Beach where he attended Wilson High School. At an early age, along with his brother Darren, he began playing soccer and spent many years playing in various Long Beach leagues and traveling in tournaments. His lifelong passion for music also began at an early age thanks to his musically talented parents. As a teenager he began playing the keyboards in an 80’s New Wave band in which his older brother Tosh played guitar. He also thoroughly enjoyed the beach and surfing and could always be found catching waves or hanging out at Seal Beach or other surrounding Southern California Beaches.
In 1993 Jason left the beaches behind in pursuit of new passions: the mountains, snow, and snowboarding. He moved to Utah and began working at Snow Basin where he worked for 24 years before recently continuing his career at Powder Mountain. He thoroughly enjoyed his job as a ski lift mechanic as it allowed him to be outdoors, snowboard and be around people. Upon moving to Utah Jason began dating Paula Clarke, a Utah native, his heart was now in Utah and he was there to stay.
Jason and Paula married in 1996 and were married for 22 years. Although Paula and Jason divorced, they would always share in their love of their amazing daughter Samantha, the pride and joy of Jason’s life. Jason encouraged and shared with his daughter his love of skiing/snowboarding, soccer, the outdoors and music. Jason coached Samantha’s soccer teams for many years and loved nothing more than playing the drums while Samantha played her guitar. His fervor for the outdoors was also shared with his dog Marley, whom Jason took on many hikes, drives and adventures.
Always up for a new challenge, Jason taught himself to play the drums and bongos. He played in local bands, Floor 13, AJ, Pinetop Inferno and The Johnny Utahs. He loved performing and recording with these bands and the lasting friendships he made with his bandmates.
Jason was fun and charming and had a real zeal for life. He was deeply connected with his family including his many cousins, nieces and nephews. He has joined his father Ronald Vaughn in Heaven. He leaves behind his sweet daughter Samantha, mother Bonnie Vaughn, brothers Tosh (Rosanna) Vaughn and Darren Vaughn.
You left us earlier than expected. We love you Jason and we will see you again on that big wave in the sky.
Due to Covid-19 a celebration of life will be held at a later date with family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Jason’s name to Nurture the Creative Mind at nurturethecreativemind.org.
