Jay Alden Burton

January 6, 1944 — March 26, 2023

Jay Alden Burton, age 79, lost his two-year battle with cancer and passed away peacefully in his home with his wife, Marsha, and granddaughter, Saoirse, by his side the morning of Sunday, March 26, 2023.

Jay was born on January 6, 1944 in Ogden to Alden Burton and Nora Adams of Fruit Heights, Utah. He graduated from Davis High School and attended Weber State College for a time in hopes of earning a forestry degree. His family was one of the founding families of Fruit Heights city. He was a born-and-raised fruit farmer, working on and running the family cherry orchard until it was sold in the early 2000s.

Jay was a supervisor at Clover Club Foods in Kaysville for 38 years making potato chips and providing machine maintenance within the plant. After Clover Club closed its doors, he continued making potato chips and was the plant manager at Utah Chips (Lant Chips) for several years and ran the Layton location by himself, providing his expertise and years of potato chip manufacturing experience to successfully launch the brand within Utah.

Jay met Marsha Hammer Wilson while working at Clover Club. They married August 18, 1977 and were happily married until his death.

Jay loved to fish, hunt, and take long car rides. The Great American West was his passion and Yellowstone was his favorite place to visit. He loved trains, planes, atlases, maps, and the great outdoors.

Jay is survived by his wife Marsha, his children Brett (Maren) Burton, Todd Burton, Teresa (Holly) Burton, stepchildren Richard Wilson, Cami (David) Koch, and April Wilson. He had 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

At his request, funeral services will not be held, however, the family will be holding a viewing for family and friends on Monday, April 3, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N Fairfield Rd, Layton, UT.
