Jay O. Cheney
PLEASANT VIEW a" Jay Otis Cheney, loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away suddenly on Sunday evening October 10, 2010, surrounded by his family.
He was born January 18, 1940 in Salt Lake City a son of Joseph Otis and Laura Preece Cheney. He was raised in Logan, Utah where he graduated from Logan High School and Utah State University. He was a very good athlete and participated in football, basketball, baseball, track and tennis. He also enjoyed golfing.
Jay married Barbara Christoffersen and together they had two daughters. They lived in Brigham City for 25 years before moving to Pleasant View.
He spent most of his career working at Thiokol. The majority of his 30 years there were spent in the public relations department.
Jay was an avid outdoorsman. He made many trips to Iowa to hunt pheasants. He looked forward to the goose hunt every year and enjoyed fishing. He spent many happy hours with his friend Jack in the boat. Jay was kind hearted and very generous. He was blessed throughout his life with many friends.
Surviving are his wife Barbara; his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Shane Hirschi, South Weber; three grandchildren whom he adored, Jason (Kortnee), Ryan, and Ashlee Hirschi a" they were his pride and joy. Grandpa Jay will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. His beloved dog, Gracie, also survives him.
Also surviving are his sister, Sarah Jo (Laurence) Neuberger and brother Scott (Cindy) Cheney, both of San Antonio, TX.
Preceding Jay in death were his parents and his daughter Christy.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 14 at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View 10th Ward Chapel, 3602 North 500 West.
Family will visit with friends at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday at the ward chapel 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Interment, Brigham City Cemetery.
