Jay Bone Dansie
1926 ~ 2019
Jay Bone Dansie was born to Robert Erva Dansie and Llewellyen Bone Dansie in Layton, Utah on June 30, 1926. He left the world in a peaceful manner on March 25, 2019, two years after the passing of his beloved wife, Marleen France Dansie. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Floyd R. Dansie. He is survived by his five children, Ryan (Deborah), Douglas, Dane (Sharon), Jayann (Kevin) Mansfield, and Trisha Dansie; 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Jay was an advocate of education, having served as a teacher, principal, and administrator in the Davis School District and having earned a Doctorate Degree in Education. Growing up during the great depression, he assisted his parents at Dansie's Market and served in the Army during WWII. He had a distinct sense of humor, with infamous Jay jokes, and was always trying to make others smile. He was gregarious, but not loud, and would easily strike up conversations with others and made acquaintance easily.
He was dedicated to his family, accommodating his young children's desire to have a variety of pets, taking them on summer vacations, and insuring they all got an education. He was a devoted husband who was constantly at his wife's bedside as she struggled with health issues during the final decade of her life. In his own final days, an inquiring doctor asked him his secret to a 68-year marriage. He responded, "love each other.” Perhaps life is that simple.
Special thanks to the staff and volunteers of the William E. Christoffersen Salt Lake Veterans Home who made Jay’s final two years a joy, despite his battle with cancer.
