Jay Sharp Gregory

Jay Sharp Gregory, servant of God, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all, passed away unexpectedly on May 11, 2023 from a stroke at age 85. Born May 3 1938 in Mapleton, Cub River, Idaho to Otto Janes and Elizabeth Sharp Gregory. 

He married BarDee Glover, the love of his life, in the Logan Utah temple on Sept. 28, 1961. 

He grew up having learned the value of hard work in the family farm. He graduated from Preston High School and attended Ricks College and Weber State. He worked for Ogden Iron Works, Marquardt, Murdock and Volvo GM. His last and favorite job was a gardener at the Ogden Utah Temple. He owned his own yard care business for 35 years and employed many youth. 

He served in many church capacities including Bishop of the Sunset 5th Ward. 

He served a 2 1/2-year mission in the southwest Indian Mission and with his eternal companion in the Ogden Inner City Mission. He loved the youth and spent many years in scouting and received the silver Beaver award. 

He is survived by his wife, BarDee, his son William Jay and his daughter DaLene(Troy)

Bodily. 

He has 6 grandchildren. Olson, Suel, Elsie, and Anson Gregory. Tyler(Samantha) Bodily and Madison Brown also 6 great grandchildren, Brenna, Gavin, Jordan, Riley, Gracie and MarLee. Brothers Darvel(Kathy) Gregory, Garald(Nyla) Gregory, Janice(Kent) Kindred. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 foster children, Preston Smith and Trudy Whitesheep, sisters Dorma, Carma, May and Elaine and brother Morris Gregory. 

A thank you to the staff at Holy Cross Davis Hospital and to the Sunset 5th ward where he resided for 60 years. 

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sunset 5^th Ward, 2431 N. 250 W. Sunset, Utah.  Friends may visit with family Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment will take place at Lindquist Layton Mortuary.
