Jay Russell Ney returned with honor to his Heavenly Home on Monday March 27, 2023, after a valiant one-year battle with prostate cancer. He was born May 25, 1947, in Provo, Utah, to Russell LaMar and Kathryn (Lindstrom) Ney. Being a “military brat”, he traveled the world with his parents and two sisters. He attended many different schools and graduated from Clearfield High School in 1965. Jay attended Weber State, until his number came up to be drafted and he joined the Navy. He served his country well and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He loved his time in the Navy and retired from the military with full honors.
In 1979, he married his eternal campaign, Wanda Dille Ney in Riverdale, Utah. They were later sealed in the Ogden Utah Temple.
Jay was blessed to serve in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in various ward and stake callings. In 2020, Jay and Wanda were called on a mission to Heber Valley Girls Camp, but because of COVID, the camp was closed for two years, and the Lord sent them to Badger Creek Girls Camp in 2021. They felt honored to serve with great missionaries and developed lifelong friendships with them. Jay had a strong testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ, and his atoning sacrifice.
Jay’s pride and joy were his grandchildren. He loved to take them camping and fishing, showing them the planes or ships at military museums, and sharing his love of music with them. He always made sure they had a popsicle in their hand and a smile on their face.
Jay is survived by his wife, Wanda Ney; children, Mike (Emily) Cox, Staci (Leon) Boerup, Steve (Jen) Cox, Dave (Mel) Cox, Doug (Heidi) Ney, Katie (Josh) Branz, and Julie Ney; 21 amazing grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson; 2 sisters, Paula (Grant) Johnson and Marsha (Gordon) Christiansen. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to thank friends, neighbors, and medical professionals who offered loving care and services this past year.
