Jay Rand Petersen passed away from natural causes, at the age of 74, on February 21, 2024 at Alpine Valley Care Center in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
Randy, as he was known by family, was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 9, 1949, as the oldest child of Jay Reuben Petersen and Joy D. McMullin. The family moved to Eugene, Oregon when Randy was very young. He graduated from North Eugene High School, where he excelled on the tennis team. After serving a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany and Arizona, Randy graduated from the University of Oregon with a BA in accounting.
Randy was intelligent and athletic. He loved to play basketball and spent many hours on the courts of YMCAs until age no longer allowed him to do so. He was an avid reader and meticulous note taker. Randy was also a talented artist, and he shared that talent through sketches and paintings.
Randy is survived by three sisters: Romae (and Del) Gregg of Chandler, Arizona; Janet (and Joe) Skinner of Orem, Utah; and Calene (and Chuck) Teaford of Snowflake, Arizona. He is also survived by one brother, O. Mark (and Sherri) Petersen of Provo, Utah; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Elise Peterson and Paula Petersen.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the team at Alpine Valley Care Center, and to the nurses of Symbii Hospice & Home Health, who skillfully and compassionately cared for Randy in his final weeks.
