Jay D. Rich passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025. He was born on December 8, 1938, in Brigham City, the son of Irene Grace Wilson and Arlow Rich. His father passed away when he was 12 years old, forcing Jay to grow up quickly and help with the household responsibilities.
He married Martha Engledow, together they had two children, they later divorced.
Jay had a noteworthy career, retiring as a Missile Technology Specialist at Hill Air Force Base. His technical expertise and dedication were respected by colleagues and peers alike. In addition to his work in missile technology, Jay spent over a decade devoted to working with special needs children, a role that showcased his remarkable kindness and patience. His efforts in this area had a meaningful impact on the lives of many families.
Outside of his professional life, Jay had diverse interests. He had a passion for sports, enthusiastically following all games, he was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan.
Jay and Martha enjoyed the time they spent participating in a bowling league and the friends he met along the way. He also loved woodwork and was very skilled with the scroll saw and created many beautiful wood pictures, which he proudly displayed.
Jay will be remembered as a loving individual committed to excellence in his work and devoted to making a difference in the lives of others. His legacy of kindness and passion for helping those around him will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Jay is survived by his children Jay (Khae Khai) Rich and Shari (Brad) Porter, his brother Harry (Karen) Rich; 6 grandchildren Fawn, Kodee, Jamie, Amber, Jacob and Bryson, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, with one on the way.
Preceded in death by his parents, infant granddaughter Camille and grandson Chris and siblings Sheila Joy and Richard.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 12:00 noon at the Brigham City Cemetery, 300 South 300 East, Brigham City, Utah.
