Jayne Brokaw

Beloved Mother and friend to many, Jayne (Jaynie) Lavee Brokaw, 47, passed away Friday, Jan. 9, at the Huntsman Cancer Institute with her husband by her side.

Jaynie was born and raised in Sheridan Wyoming by her parents Reo and Paula Barney.  Jaynie graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors degree in Music Therapy and a Masters degree in Special Education.

Jaynie worked with kids with severe disabilities at Reading Elementary in Farmington Utah.  After becoming a homemaker Jaynie continued to tutor at her children's elementary school, and was an active hospice volunteer.

Jaynie loved music.  She played the piano, guitar, and often taught lessons to others.  As a member of her University Choir and later the Davis Master Chorale, she sang in performances in Russia, Washington DC, and at Carnegie Hall.

Jaynie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She worked in the Relief Society, Young Women, Primary, and as an accompanist to the ward choir.

Jaynie is survived by her children, Victoria Brokaw, Ian Swaner, Brynn Brokaw, and Kaleb Brokaw; her husband Kyle Brokaw; her parents Reo and Paula Barney; her Brothers Randy Barney and Dr. Bret Barney; her sister Teresa Doke; and many, many friends and family members. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; aunts Jill Turner, Betty Cahoon, and Clair Gardner; uncles Lolan Turner, Dr. Gerry Turner, Ralph Rollins and Ken Boothe.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan 14th, at the Layton Utah Stake Center, 60 West Gordon Avenue, Layton Utah. Friends may visit family Tuesday, Jan 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N Fairfield Rd, Layton Utah and from 9:30am to 10:30 a.m. in the Relief Society room prior to the service.
