Jean Louise Kasparek Barney
Our beloved mother and grandmother, Jean Louise Kasparek Barney, 88, passed away on November 9, 2021, at her home in Layton, Utah. She was born in David City, Nebraska to Louis and Josephine “Ortie” Kasparek; and was raised in Burbank, California.
While attending Brigham Young University she was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and proudly proclaimed her love for the Gospel and the blessings it brought into her life. While at BYU, she met her beloved Clive, and they were married in the Manti Temple on January 5, 1954. She spent 65 years by his side and was unfailingly devoted to him and the family they created.
Jean and Clive settled in Layton, Utah, and raised their family in a home they lovingly restored. Jean had a great love for her home and the comfort it brought to her.
Never one to seek accolades, she quietly went about serving with her husband in various callings in the Church and touched the lives of many. She never questioned what was asked of her; instead, she always fulfilled her responsibilities with dedication and love. Her example of quiet strength, deep and abiding testimony of the Gospel, and devotion to her family and others will continue to bless the lives of her children and grandchildren, and generations to come.
Jean had a great interest and love for family history and was particularly proud of her Czechoslovakian roots. She spent decades tracing her family lines and has left an important and lasting record of her work.
Perhaps no other words can be said to truly capture the essence of Jean than her own, which she freely shared, “I must be one of Heavenly Father’s favorite daughters because I have been blessed with such a good, happy life.” This humble, beautiful woman truly understood what was important, and lived each day with that in mind.
Jean is survived by her five children: Kathy Harvey (Paul), Julie Kendrick (Hal), John Barney (Heather), David Barney (Torri), Paul Barney (Jennifer); 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and her brother Jerry Kasparek (Diane).
