Jean R. Tyler Cook

November 3, 1919 ~ April 2, 2015

North Ogden – Jean R. Tyler Cook passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at her daughter’s home, of causes incident to living 95 years.

Jean was born on November 3, 1919, in Ucon, Idaho.  She was the middle child of seven born to Andrews Tyler and Helen Dodge.  She attended school in Ucon and was the first in her family to graduate high school.

She “eloped” to the Salt Lake City LDS Temple with Harold L. Cook on September 27, 1938.  They farmed in Milo, Idaho for a time, moving to Darby, Montana to ranch in 1951.  They moved “into town”, Hamilton, Montana, where she worked as a Practical Nurse for Marcus Daily Hospital and he went to work for the Forest Service.  She later worked for and retired after 27 years from the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, Rocky Mountain Laboratory.  They lived in Hamilton for 43 years before moving to Ogden in 1994.  After much unconditional love and the best care anyone could ask, Harold passed away on August 30, 1997, just a few weeks before their 59 th Wedding Anniversary.

Jean was the epitome of hard work and service to others.  She filled her days serving her family, friends, neighbors, and strangers.  She had a work ethic unmatched.  She always could see work that needed doing, even her dreams.  She said she had to do something every day to pay her rent for being here.  She was a master homemaker, bread maker, seamstress, quilter, and caregiver.  She filled her days with tasks and her evenings keeping journals.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many responsible positions including but not limited to Junior Sunday School Coordinator, Relief Society Counselor and teacher and Stake MIA First Counselor.  In addition she worked long hours creating quilts and leper bandages for the Humanitarian Center.

Jean is survived by her children, Renee (Clyde) Flinn, North Ogden; and Rod (Carolyn) Cook, Stevensville, Montana; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sisters, Madge Gygi and Mary Thueson.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, three brothers, and a grandson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 2 p.m. and Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m., one hour prior to services, at the mortuary.  Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
