Jean R. Dabling

March 13, 1930 ~ July 27, 2017

Jean Rose Williams Dabling, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Pine View Transitional Rehab facility after a short illness.

Jean was born in Farr West, Utah on March 13, 1930 to Jesse Myron Williams and Alice LaVera Smout.  She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Jean was raised in Farr West and graduated from Weber High School in 1948.  She married Robert L. Dabling that same year; they were later divorced.

Jean was an accomplished musician; she sang in the original Farr West Ward choir, was First Chair violin in the Weber High School orchestra, and was offered a music scholarship to Utah State University.  She also enjoyed playing the piano.  Although she was a self-taught pianist, when she accompanied her son during a solo and ensemble festival at Weber State University in 1964, she received laudatory comments on her ability from the judges.

Jean resided in the Ogden area her entire life.  She worked for the Department of the Air Force for 38 years and was recognized time and again – in the form of “Zero Defects” awards and Quality Step Increases – for her high quality work as an administrative assistant, budget analyst, and planner.  After retiring from civil service, she worked for several businesses in Ogden, including almost 18 years as an employee of Lindquist Mortuaries and Cemeteries.  She retired from Lindquist’s in Jan 2016.

Jean also enjoyed traveling; she visited Crete, Greece, Germany, and Mexico, and many US states.  She also enjoyed watching sporting events such as golf, basketball, baseball, and football.  And, in keeping with her musical abilities, she enjoyed attending presentations of Utah Opera and Utah Festival Opera.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Faye Harris and Marian Hurst.  She is survived by her children, LTC (ret) Robert (Susan) Dabling, and Debi (Dave) Baxter; five grandchildren, Julie (Dan) Anderson, Jason Dabling, Jared (Andrea Elliott) Dabling, Justin Dabling, and Kristen Black; and two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Aeryn Anderson.

The family wishes to thank the Emergency Room staff, Third Floor doctors and nurses at McKay-Dee Hospital, and the staff of Pine View Transitional Rehab for their compassionate and loving care during Jean’s illness.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
