Jean Ransom Harris

January 2, 1925 ~ December 11, 2021

Jean Ransom Harris passed away early on December 11, 2021 in Clearfield, Utah.  At almost 97 years old she had a life full of love, family, and many adventures.

She was born on January 2, 1925 in Preston, Idaho to Ada Ames Ransom and Arnold Ames Ransom.  She was the oldest of six children.  She had a wonderful childhood growing up in rural Southern Idaho next to a creek with room to roam, trees to climb, and chokecherries and apples to pick.

Jean married Merlin Grant Harris on Christmas day 1947 and together they raised three children, Cheryl, Peggy, and Michael.

She worked and retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1974.  Jean enjoyed her retirement by traveling with Merlin in their RV.  They spent many years as the first campground hosts at Stateline Dam in the Uinta Mountains.  Jean continued returning to the same area for many years with her family.

Jean was the heart and spirit of her family.  She enjoyed her large family of 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and an increasing number of great-great grandchildren.  She loved being a Grandma and spoiled every one of her grandchildren with her endless love.  When her great-grandchildren arrived, she spoiled them as much as she could.  She loved babies – holding and cooing at them whenever she could.  She was notorious for waking babies.  She loved playing with little kids.  She would make up games with whatever happened to be close by to play with and entertain kids, anything to make them giggle and smile.

She was talented in oil and China painting, enjoyed reading and crafts, and loved visiting with family.  She was a member in the LDS church and has served in many capacities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Merlin, her daughter Cheryl, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister and two brothers.

Her life celebration will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Lindquist's Syracuse Mortuary 869 S. 2000 W. Syracuse.  Friends may visit family from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the services.  Graveside services are scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Preston Cemetery, 1451 N. 800 E.  Preston, ID.
