Jean Crawshaw Rothenberger, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2023, in Syracuse, Utah. She was born August 16, 1933, to Jane Treseder and Eugene T. Crawshaw. She grew up in Ogden, Utah and graduated from Ogden High School. She was married to Murray Rothenberger on May 22, 1956, and had three children. They were later divorced.
While raising a family she worked at L. R. Samuels and Auerbachs department stores in Ogden. In the late 80’s she started working at McKay Dee Hospital as a Telephone Operator and continued her career there until retirement. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
One of the things Jean cherished most in life was her Bridge Club with lifelong friends. Jean also had a passion for needlepoint, crocheting, and sewing. She taught her children and grandchildren knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and many other crafts they wanted to learn. She never let the fact that she was left-handed (and most of them were not) stop her from finding a way to teach them!
Jean was an avid reader who immersed herself in countless books. It was a challenge to keep her Kindle stocked with new novels, and she connected with several of her grandchildren who also had a love of reading through books. Beyond the pages of books, Jean delighted in attending musicals and plays. The magic of live performances captivated her as she witnessed stories unfold through song and dance. The plays she attended at the Shakespeare Festivals in Cedar City were among her favorites.
Jean was an amazing grandma, she loved playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she found great joy in playing cards together and letting them cheat to win. The grandkids and great grandkids will always remember all the time spent baking treats, playing games, and swimming with their grandma.
She is survived by her children, Pam (Scott) Parker, Tricia (Alan) Hansen, Andrew (Jeff Smith) Rothenberger; 9 grandchildren, Jennifer, Kristina (Randall), Michael (Rhandi), Jeffrey, Jessica (Colby), Tracy, Samantha, Michelle (Chanse), and Zachary (MJ); 16 great-grandchildren, one on the way; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, William T. Crawshaw; sister-in-law, Jackie Crawshaw; and grandson-in-law, Aaron Bender.
The family would like to thank the staff of Beehive Homes of Syracuse for the compassion they showed for all of us during a difficult time.
