Jean Hawkes Stander

July 7, 1931 ~ March 22, 2015

Jean Hawkes Stander, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at her home at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living surrounded by her family.  After 18 years, mom is joyfully reunited with her eternal companion, Tony. Jean was born on July 7, 1931 in River Heights, Utah, to A. Lawrence and Mabel Nielsen Hawkes; she was the sixth of eight children.  She was raised in Howell Valley, Utah.

Jean Married Tony L. Stander on August 5, 1949 in the Logan LDS Temple. They resided in Tremonton, St. George, and Ogden.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in several leadership positions and was an ordinance worker in the Ogden LDS Temple. She was a homemaker where she excelled in cooking that expanded to a career as a cook at the Ogden LDS Temple. She loved traveling with friends and family; her favorite memories were made at Bear Lake and on Alaska fishing trips.

Jean’s family and the gospel were the center of her life.  Jean is survived by her sons, A. Lynn (Cheryl), Clive Tony (Linda), Kim David (Chris), Kevin Lawrence, and Ryan Todd; daughter, Desiree Stander; 24 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren in addition to 4 more within the year. To the last day of Jean’s life she remembered all her children's, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s birthdays, and knew every detail about each of them and when possible was actively involved in every important event in their lives.

She is also survived by brother, Van (Lucille) Hawkes and sister, Margaret (Dennis) Udy.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Lynn Stander;  her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Jean will always be remembered for the example she was to everyone that knew her on how to endure to the end.  She went through numerous physical trials in her life and endured each trial with grace, a positive attitude and never let her fun sense of humor diminish.  Mom, dear friend, grandma we will miss your stunning, beautiful blue eyes, your amazing smile and most of all your kisses and hugs!

The family would like to acknowledge and give special thanks to Karen and Ted Wright, the staff at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living, Dr. Harry Senekjian, and Dr. Adhish Agarwal.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Ogden Weber Stake Center, 5855 Skyline Drive, South Ogden.  Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Bear River City Cemetery.
