Jeannine Mae Astler Cummings (91), surrounded by her children, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2020. She was born October 26, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to William John Astler and Beatrice Irene Wesson Astler.
Jeannine married her eternal companion, Rulon Caine Cummings on August 14, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. Rulon passed away on April 2, 2019 after 72 years of marriage. They are parents of six children, Craig S. Cummings (Kay), R. Kent Cummings (Debbie), Douglas W. Cummings (Kathy), Celia M. Furlong (Thomas), Cynthia I. Richins (Larry), and AnnaLisa H. Stewart (Dan). Rulon and Jeannine have twenty-four grandchildren and forty great grandchildren.
Jeannine was preceded in death by her husband, Rulon C. Cummings, her parents, William J. Astler and Beatrice I. Astler, her sister, Beverly I. Jonasen, and two grandsons, Clark Cummings and Cameron Furlong. She is survived by her six children and her sister, Wilma A. Watts (Ron).
Jeannine was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She faithfully served in many calling in the Relief Society, Primary, and as Ward Young Woman President. Her most favorite callings were serving the youth and children of her ward.
Her life was devoted in the service of her family and friends. The greatest accomplishments of her life were to raise her children in a Christ centered home. She possessed an infinite amount of strength and patience raising six children and supporting them in everything they did.
She was a hard worker and had very little time to herself. Many days she parented alone while her husband served for years in his church callings and civic responsibilities. She never complained, she loved working beside him and caring for others.
She was the greatest example of unconditional love. Jeannine would always worry about others and would include them in many family parties. She loved to cook, entertain, and decorate for all holidays. Jeannine was also an accomplished dancer, singer and musician.
Mom set a great example for her family and to those around her. We will miss her listening ear, her humor and the many stories she told. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Symbii Hospice and to Cecily and Tania for the compassionate and capable care they gave her during her final days.
