Jeannine Alice Morris Herdt

December 21, 1933 ~ December 10, 2020

Jeannine Alice (Morris) Herdt, age 86, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020, at her assisted living residence in Ogden, Utah.

She was born December 21, 1933 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Keene Lon Morris and Alice “Peggy” Lillian Thompson Morris. Jeannine grew up on the family farm southwest of Gering, NE. She attended the Cedar Valley School (a country school) from 1st through 8th grades. After Jeannine completed 8th grade, she would ride a pony back and forth to school. Fortunately, her maternal grandparents lived midway between her home and the school, stopping to visit. The family relocated to Pavillion, WY, where she graduated from Pavillion High School in 1952, staying on as the school secretary for an additional year before returning to Nebraska.

Back in Nebraska she met the love of her life, and her future husband, Ervin J. Herdt. Ervin had just returned from Korea and was attending Scottsbluff Junior College when they met and married. After he graduated the couple and their baby daughter, Keena, moved to Lincoln, NE. They had another baby, Douglas, while living in Lincoln, and after Ervin graduated from the University of Nebraska, he accepted a job at Hill Air Force Base. The family moved to Clearfield, Utah, bought a home, and had two more children, Peggi and Rick. They lived in that home until 2019.

She is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend. She often hosted large gatherings with family and friends where all would participate in games, good food and tons of laughter. She loved camping, fishing, hiking, sitting around a campfire and starry nights. She and Erv had a 5th wheel camper and saw every corner of Utah and other western states. She described her heaven as a beautiful wooded area full of sunshine, beautiful skies, lush green landscapes and sparkling lakes.

Jeannine was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Stanley Keene Morris, Billings, MT; daughter-in-law, Tina Marie Wood Herdt; and many beloved extended family members and friends. Jeannine is survived by her loving husband, Ervin J. Herdt, of 66 years; her four children, Keena K. Perguson and her husband Danny, Mustang, OK; Douglas J. Herdt and his wife Trish, Washington, UT;  Peggi A. Herdt, Ogden, UT; and  Richard E. Herdt and his wife Dana, Fountain Hills, AZ; 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Jerilyn G. Wilson, Longmont, CO; and  and Joyce A. McIlnay, Central City, NE.
