CLEARFIELD‒It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our father, Jeffery Arnold Chapman. Dad was born on November 19, 1959, at March Air Force Base in Orange County, California.
He was the third child born to Jay Arnold and Marlene June Hardy Chapman. Eventually they returned back to Utah. Dad attended Ogden City Schools. During that time, he found a love for boxing. His hard work and dedication earned him a Gold Glove Award. Shortly after Dad attended Clearfield Job Corps and decided it wasn’t for him. Dad then enlisted in the Army and served as a E4 Combat Engineer engineering bridges in Germany and surrounding countries. He finished his enlistment and returned home to Utah.
He started employment at Hurco Industries in Ogden in 1986. There he was a very talented and skilled master carpenter, as well as a supervisor. Dad worked there for around 21 years until the company was sold. Dad then found employment with Wasatch Intergrated Waste until he was finally able to retire in November of 2023.
Dad was a family-oriented man. He grew up with seven siblings who gave him many nieces and nephews that he adored. Everything he did was centered around his children. No matter what the circumstances of life were, he made sure we always had what we needed even in adulthood. He was proud of his children and grandchildren. He taught us many life skills that have helped shape us into who we are today.
Dad met our Mom, Juliann in 1988 at a mutual friends’ house. A year later in 1989 they were married. From this union there were four children, three sons, Nate, Jeff, and Trevor; and his one and only daughter, Baleigh. They later divorced but remained great friends.
Dad enjoyed being a bachelor and often made jokes about it. Though, he found a great companionship with his friend, Pane. Together, they enjoyed traveling, hiking, and sharing good meals. He enjoyed his time with her and her family as he considered them family, too.
Dad had a strong love and appreciation for the outdoors. Along with his love for boxing as a child, he also loved baseball. In his adolescent years, he pitched a perfect game, and they carried him all the way home to his front porch.
He was a well-rounded angler as well as an avid hunter. He was often told that he could “piss in the road and catch fish out of it”. He enjoyed taking us out as often as he could as young children. One of his love languages was taking you out fishing and showing you his secret spots. He was always looking to play a prank… especially if you fell asleep during the all-nighters while at Willard Bay. Pops had many stories he would tell of his fishing and hunting excursions. One he always held dear to him was when he helped his at-the-time, late father-in-law, Boyd, get his one only moose on his final hunting trip. During that trip, he saved Grandpa Boyd’s life. His truck camper caught on fire from a small heater during the night. Dad pulled him out and put the fire out. His final hunting trip was with his father in Montana. Together they got an Antelope. Another memory he held close as he treasured any time he got with his dad.
We will forever miss Dad and cherish him and his legacy.
Dad is survived by his children, Nate (Evelyn) Brown, Trevor Chapman, and Baleigh (Kobbie) Harper; his 10 grandchildren, Brison, Tenley, Ryker, Bryler, BrynLeigh, Taizleigh, Kash, Therron (TJ), Noah, and Oakleigh; his father and his wife, Jay and Sharon Chapman; five siblings and their spouses, Kevin (Pam) Chapman , James Chapman, Laurie Chapman Folk, Carla Chapman Ward, and Brian (Francine) Chapman. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Julie Chapman; his best friend, Pane, her children and grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Dad was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Dushane Chapman; his mother, Marlene June Hardy Chapman; his sister, Jaelene Marie Chapman Wilke; and many other family members and close friends.
