Jeffrey James McBride, 30, passed away peacefully in the early morning of September 14, 2024, in the arms of his mother and surrounded by family, due to complications from multiple medical conditions.
Jeffrey was born 11 weeks early on July 22, 1994, at a healthy, yet tiny 2 lbs. 11 ounces. From the start, he showed remarkable resilience, overcoming spinal meningitis at 10 days old. Despite the resulting challenges from this illness such as cortical blindness, epilepsy, and cerebral palsy, Jeffrey faced life with extraordinary courage. He underwent numerous surgeries and hospital stays throughout his life, but he rarely showed distress, always maintaining his natural happiness.
As a special needs student he enjoyed attending school and being around people from the beginning. He attended Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind in preschool, Whitesides Elementary, North Layton Jr High, Northridge High School, and Vista Education Campus. He loved the friendships he made with his classmates and all the many teachers, aids, and peer tutors. He was frequently recognized and greeted by friends around town and on vacation, always responding with a smile. His involvement with the student body at each school was an awesome and rewarding experience for both him and his family. He also attended PRYME, a special needs day program and made so many lifelong friends. They kept his life exciting and fun with the many holiday celebrations and trips into the community. He had the unique opportunity of going on many of these adventures with his sister Julie who lovingly cared for him. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Kaisha and her staff for their continuous support and love.
Jeffrey loved going on family trips. He loved roller coasters and thrill rides, and everything Disney! He was privileged to receive a Make-A-Wish trip to Orlando with his family that will be cherished forever. He loved boating on Bear Lake, and camping in the mountains riding ATV’s. He loved going to the movies and eating popcorn one kernel at a time from his own personal pile in his lap. He loved going for rides in the truck with the dogs while listening to Blink 182. He was always happy to give a high five, a thumb wrestle, or a playful honk of the nose.
Jeffrey was a beacon of light and an inspiration, demonstrating how to find joy and happiness regardless of circumstances. Although he never spoke beyond “ya” his communication was profound. The family extends their deepest gratitude to all his caregivers over his 30 years, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, and friends. We were truly blessed to have so many we could lean on. Special thanks go to Victoria, Laura, Deana, and the CNS Hospice team for their compassionate care in his final years.
Jeffrey is survived by his parents, James and Jennifer McBride of Layton; siblings, Julie and Jackson McBride (Jenna) of Layton; and grandparents, Jimmy and Joy McBride of Layton, Pat and Scott Nalder of Layton, and Marc West and Kayelynn Van Wagenen of Ivins. He was also dearly loved by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jeffrey was watched over to the end by his dogs Cub and Oakley.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother Lisa McBride, his great-grandparents which he was privileged to know and be loved by, and aunt Tiffany Lynn McBride. He was also preceded by several special friends he loved.
