Jennie Collings Petersen
September 23, 1958 ~ June 5, 2017
Jennie Collings Petersen passed away on 5 June 2017 at the very young age of 58. She spent almost forty of those years married to the love of her life, Russell Petersen. Russell has always loved telling the story of how he asked her to marry him and how they were married in their home on 14 April 1981. They shared their time together in Huntsville, Utah, raising four children and eventually nine grandchildren.
She was born in Wamigo Kansas on 23 September 1958 to Tony and Fern Collings. Her family lived in several states throughout the U.S. including Utah, Missouri, and California.
Jennie was interested in computer science and pursued a technical certification. She had a thirst for knowledge and easily applied what she learned. Some of her favorite occupations were in manufacturing and quality control. Her favorite, not only because of the work, but because of the strong life-long friendships she developed wherever she worked. Her family was fortunate and proud to work along side her for many years. Her children found this time an opportunity to sneak up behind her and scare her whenever they could. Her reaction was priceless and her laugh afterwards was the reason worth scaring her for. She had an amazing and beautiful laugh that will be missed so much.
Jennie enjoyed riding horses, knitting and crocheting, reading, camping, logic puzzles, long drives, watching scary movies and documentaries, debating politics, listening to music, and spending time with her friends and family at home. She loved sitting on her porch to watch the moon rise and the sunset. She had an enormous love of peonies and passed that love down to her children.
In 2008, Jennie and Russell designed and built their dream house. They were able to enjoy almost ten years together in the house they loved so much. If you drove by their house every evening, you could catch them sitting out on the porch together, Russell calling for LeRoy, and Jennie drinking her coffee. Jennie and Russell’s love and commitment for each other was a wonderful example to their family. It’s rare to find an enduring, loyal and strong love like they shared.
“Always remember, there was nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name.” - Avett Brothers.
She is survived by her husband, and love of her life, Russell Leo Petersen, her sisters Carol Conway and Nancy Wimpey, her four children Michael, Angela, Dale, and James, her grandchildren Spencer, Alexander, Isaac, Cavitt, Ashleigh, Madison, Caitlyn, Alyssa, and Devin, her children from another mother Christina Petersen, Brett Wirick and Brady Anderson, her extended family Jeremy, Savannah and Trett Nelson, her friend Tara Trejos, and her dog and companion LeRoy.
She was preceded in death by her parents Tony and Fern Collings.
Jennie was known for her deep pride and fierce protection of her family. The loss of her is overwhelming. When she passed, the world truly lost some of its beauty.
Saying we will miss you madly and love you forever doesn’t even accurately describe the loss and heartbreak that we feel and will feel for the rest of our lives. We love you so much our mama, our best friend, our sister, our confidant, our anchor, our moon-catcher.
“We children sat transfixed before that moon our mother had called forth from the waters. When the moon had reached its deepest silver, my sister……though only three, cried aloud to our mother, to ….. me, to the river and the moon, "Oh, Mama, do it again!" And I had my earliest memory.” - Pat Conroy, Prince of Tides
