Jerold Harold German

Jerold H. German, 95, passed away Monday, September 17, 2012 at Heritage Park Care Center from pancreatic cancer.

He was born the 13th of 14 children to George J. German and Dorthea (Jensen) German in Cozad, Nebraska on August 7, 1917. He was raised on the family farm and educated in the Cozad school system.

On April 3, 1938, Jerry married Marian Godfrey in Julesburg, Colorado. They were together for 67 years. They lived and farmed in Cozad until 1943 before moving to Big Bear Lake, California, Montello, Nevada and finally Ogden, Utah. They had seven children, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 12 siblings, wife, Marian, three children, Lois, Jeff, Jack, and a great-grandson, Zachary. Jerry leaves behind his children, Larry, Albuquerque, NM; Don, Arab, AL; Greg, Roy, UT; Jennifer, Wolford Heights, CA; and one sister along with many Godfrey and German kin.

Jerry worked as a locomotive engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 35 years. He was the Union chairman for eight of those years. If you knew him you know that he loved the railroad more than anything and did since a child.

He was a charter member of the Roy Christian Church and was spiritual leader for 49 years and an Elder. He was active in the Gideons International for many years. He was a Mason for 60 years and Past Master in 1980. He belonged to the Scottish Rite and The El Kalah Shrine Temple. He served as the president of the Ogden Shrine Club and Scottish Rite Club and helped organize and was President of the Klunkers.

After retirement, Jerry and Marian spent 20 winters in Yuma, Arizona which they truly enjoyed. During the summer in Ogden he volunteered at the Union Station, The Ride, Shrine Hospital, Share and 7 years as an Engineer on the Heber Creeper.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 22nd at 1 p.m. at the Roy Christian Church, 4347 South 1900 West. The family will meet with friends on Saturday from 12 to 12:45 p.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road at 2:30 p.m.
