Jerry Manning, 65, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at McKay Dee Hospital following a long courageous battle with colon cancer.
He was born on January 30, 1942, the second of four children to Jane and Howard Manning in Auburn, Massachusetts. He graduated from Auburn High School and is still honored on their alumni sports hall of fame wall. After attending the United States Military Academy at West Point, he graduated from Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, New York.
Jerry served in Mannheim, Germany and Vietnam as a captain in the U. S. Army. His career as quality control engineer and quality manager spanned 38 years before he became the owner of Management Recruiters Inc. of Ogden.
He was an active participant in sports including ice hockey, baseball, football, track, lacrosse, and was a life long Nascar and auto enthusiast. Even after his illness, he continued to ski the powder of Utah since his move to South Ogden 15 years ago.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife and partner of 42 years, Susan (Padgett) Manning. He is also survived by what he considered the greatest joys and accomplishments of his life in his 3 daughters: Linda (Peter Wiley) Manning of Annandale, Virginia; Teri (Dan) Folta of Indianapolis, Indiana; Carrie (Eric) De Laney of Valparaiso, Indiana; and his ten grandchildren; Mike, Emma, Madison, Mackenzie, Brady, Katie, Tommy, Cooper, Toby and Owen. He is survived by two sisters: Sally Culp of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Meredith Yunten of Blacksburg, Virginia, and a brother; Howard A. Manning III of Reading, Pennsylvania.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 8, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
A viewing for close friends and family will be held at the mortuary on Monday from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m.
