Jerry Rodger Romero, born April 17, 1942 to Joe and Rose Romero in Del Norte, Colorado went home to be reunited with his Father in heaven on September 6, 2024.
Jerry died a peaceful death. He was ready to join his family in heaven.
Jerry is survived by his children Ryan Romero and Adam Romero (Sarah); his sister Geraldine (Geri) Romero; his grandchildren Aaron, Lilli, and Madison; his cousins Larry Chacon, Connie Welch, Alyse Davis; several nieces, nephews, good friends; and brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Brenda Mullins.
Preceding Jerry in death are his wife Sherry Romero, his parents Joe and Rose Romero, his brother Roger Romero, his Aunt Lala and Uncle Abe Chacon, and his cousins Peggy Valdez and Marty Chacon.
Jerry was born and raised in Del Norte, Colorado. He graduated from Del Norte High School. (Go Tigers) in 1960. Jerry played basketball, liked going to school dances and had many friends.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963 and was stationed in Fort Carson. In 1965 he received the Medal of Good Conduct for his service. After he served his country, he moved to Layton, Utah.
Jerry worked at Safeway Grocery Store for several years and then he went to work at the Defense Depot and Job Corp.
He met and married Sherry Mullins in June 1970 and they had two sons. Ryan Romero and Adam Romero.
Jerry was a dedicated husband and father. His family meant everything to him. He enjoyed being with family at Christmas, Easter, Birthdays and all occasions celebrating life and family. He loved to fish, barbeque, dance and listen to good music. He was an occasional golfer. He was generous, kind and funny. He loved to tease and talk about “the good old days.”
He was a devout and faithful Catholic Christian. He always had his rosary nearby and in the last years of his life he continually prayed the rosary and the “Divine Mercy Chaplet.” Before he lost his eyesight, he read the Bible daily.
Jerry impacted many with his love, friendship, wisdom, generosity, faith, strength and love of God, country and family. He leaves us much to ponder. He will be missed by everyone whose lives were touched by him.
You are free to fly in the heavens now. No more pain. You can see, you can hear, you can sing the praises of God. You will always be in our hearts and memories. Until we meet again. Vaya Con Dios!
