Jerry D. Sykes
LAYTON a" Jerry D. Sykes, 67, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010 at South Davis Community Hospital in Bountiful after a long battle with cancer.
He was born August 4, 1942 in Clinton, Indiana the son of Oscar and Florence Lyday Sykes.
Jerry married Eva Faye Pierce on May 4, 1963 in Layton, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on May 4, 1979.
Jerry served in the U.S. Army as a medic in Vietnam and served two tours in Germany.
He worked as a LPN for 15 years and retired from IRS after 25 years of service. Jerry was involved in getting a War Memorial in Layton City Veteran''s Park.
He was a member of the LDS Church serving as High Priest and a Cub Scout Master.
Jerry loved fishing, hunting and camping with his family.
Surviving are his wife Faye Sykes, daughters, Brenda (Dean) VanWeerd, Christie Sykes, son Brett (Donna) Sykes, granddaughters, Brittani, Emily and Megan VanWeerd and step-granddaughter, Danielle Anderson.
Preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters and daughter, Stephanie Sykes.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road, where Military Honors will be accorded.
