Jesse Joseph Summers
On July 8, 2018, Jesse Joseph Summers was honorably released from his earthly mission.
That mission began in 1935 when he was born to Verrel Vernon and Alene P. Summers in Montana. He married the love of his life, Verda, for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in March of 1954. He leaves behind his wife and three children, Elaine (John) Horejs of Arizona; Jesse (Terrilyn) Summers of Utah, and Lamont (Annette) Summers of Idaho; 19 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. He also leaves one sister Carol Ann (Gary) Lee and one brother Douglas (Carolyn) Summers.
Jess could always be found with a smile, a story, a joke and a song. His idea of heaven was someone who would listen to his stories. He would amaze his grandchildren by singing a song that included any word or topic they could throw his way. He loved old movies and musicals and shared that passion with family members.
From the time he was a teenager until 1975, Jess lived in Southern Idaho until he moved the family to Layton, Utah where he lived the rest of his life. In Utah, he discovered the world of Barbershop singing, first as a member of the Beehive Statesmen and later as one of the founding members of the Saltair Show Chorus. He traveled around the country participating in national barbershop singing competitions.
Jess served a mission giving tours of Temple Square in Salt Lake City for more than 12 years. Other church service included temple officiator, Bishop's counselor, High Priest Group Leader, Choir director, and teacher in numerous organizations.
