Jill Diane Smith, 65, of Farmington, Utah left this world in the early hours of Tuesday, September 6, 2022. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1957 to Dr. William and Verna Egbert. Jill was bravely battling cardiac amyloidosis and was taken from us far too soon.
Jill graduated from Weber State University with an associate degree in nursing. She spent most of her career at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah starting in Labor and Delivery, but quickly moving to the operating room, where she was a fixture for decades. She served as coordinator of neurosurgical services and then cardiovascular services before retiring in 2016.
Jill was known for her love of nature, including her horses, dogs, cats, chickens and bees. People brought her their dying plants, and she would bring them back to life with her incredible green thumb. She loved the earth itself, and being outdoors, whether hiking in the mountains, walking her dogs or just enjoying the sunset or the stars at night. We teased the grandchildren that Grandma Jill was a witch, a good witch, one with nature, living in her “mountain home.”
She is survived by her husband, Bryson Smith; her children: Ashley (Gavin) McCleary, Mountain Green, Chelsea (Michael) Budge, Cottonwood Heights, Rachel (Thomas) Smith, Seattle, Washington, Benjamin Smith, Victor, Idaho; seven grandchildren: Zaylin, Jarek, Nash, Roslyn, Maeli, Isla and Archer; her siblings: Gregory, Cary, Rick, and Jan.
Jill will be missed beyond description by all who knew her. She will also be very dearly remembered as a life partner and soulmate, a strong and committed mother, a warm and doting grandmother, a faithful friend, a fun and entertaining colleague, a gentle prankster with a quick wit, a cowgirl, a fierce lover and defender of all things living.
Jill’s Celebration of Life will be held Monday, September 12, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Copper Nickel, 2450 Grant Avenue, Ogden, Utah.
Care entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
