Jim Eatchel
On a beautiful fall afternoon, September 28, 2008, we lost our shining star, the center of our world, our much loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Jim Eatchel. He passed from his earthly existence peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.
Jim was born on October 11, 1933 to Wayne Donald and Alice Louella Nance Eatchel in Kaysville, Utah where he was a life-long resident.
He attended Kaysville Elementary, North Davis Jr. High, and graduated from Davis High School and was an alumni of the University of Utah and Weber State University.
He married Donna B. Morley in 1956 and was the proud father of Rex J. Eatchel (Dorie) Layton; Mark Jim Eatchel (Leann), Syracuse and Lisa Watson (Kent) Kaysville. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life, are Jeremy Eatchel, San Diego, CA; Brenda Young, Phoenix, AZ; Ashley Eatchel, Kaysville; Kyle Paterson-Eatchel, Layton; Derrick Watson (Tasha), West Point; Ryan Watson (Sidney) and Kaili Watson, Kaysville; great-grandchildren, Ryker, James and Rayney Watson.
Preceded in death by his parents and sister Nancy.
Jim was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War. At the age of 30 he joined the Army Special Forces Reserve and became a paratrooper. He worked at Hill AFB, retiring in 1989 receiving many awards and recognitions during his 34 years of service.
Jim never met a ball game he didn’t like. He played baseball from an early age, through high school and college and in semi-pro leagues. The highlight of his baseball career was trying out with the Brooklyn Dodgers when he was 17. When he got too old to see the fast balls he played softball. He coached little league baseball winning several championships. He Also coached little league football, became a football official for little league, high school, the WAC, and was an avid NFL fan.
Jim spent many enjoyable hours playing golf with his wife and friends. He especially liked traveling to Arizona in the winter.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
