Sunset - Jimmy R. Beene, 80, died Sunday, April 10, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 20, 1930 in Homer, La., the son of Abner D. and Carrie Elizabeth Bodry Beene. He married the love of his life, Beth Schwantes Beene in Las Vegas on December 2, 1955.

Jimmy served proudly in the USAF from 1948 to 1975, beginning in Indian Springs AFB in Nev., Bossier City, La, Okinawa Japan, San Antonio, Tx., Denver, Colo., Kincheloe AFB, Mich., then to Utah, retiring later as First Master Sargeant at Hill AFB.

Dad was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan who watched most every game they played, even if it hurt. He was also able to attend some of their games. In his earlier years, he enjoyed bowling and fishing. He also enjoyed and loved his dog, Sariah, she passed just one day before Dad. He had a great sense of humor, and will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his loving wife Beth; one sister, Velma (John) Terebesi; children, Judi (Mike) Slusser, Arlington, TX; Janet (Neal) Bowes, Roxboro NC; Jackie (Brent) McBride, Meridian, ID; Jim (Cindy) Beene Jr., Syracuse, UT; Jennifer (Jay) Smith, Plano, TX., 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Dad was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

The family would like to thank Robert, Crystal and Miller of Alpine Hospice Care for their genuine love and care of Jimmy. Also his sweet daughter-in-law Cindy, always considered his daughter, and his daughters and wife, for their unselfish care and comfort for the last years of his life at home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Sunset 4th Ward, 220 W. 975 N., Sunset. Friends may visit family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Thursday from 9:30to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road, where military honors will be accorded by the HAFB Honor Guard.
