Jimmy Masashi Kusuda

Jimmy Masashi Kusuda, 99, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. He was born on April 17, 1917 in San Mateo, California, the son of Asakichi and Midori Kusuda. Following the death of his mother, he and his four siblings moved to Japan to live with relatives. He returned to the U.S. in 1936 and made his home in Alameda, CA. On February 17, 1941, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and received his discharge on December 8, 1945.
Jimmy married Aiko Okamura in Pocatello, ID on July 27, 1944. After living in several different areas of the country, they settled in Ogden and established Jimmy’s Flower Shop on September 2, 1948. Their floral business now consists of two stores, one in Ogden and the second in Layton. It has flourished under the management of their youngest son Michael.
He was selected to be a member of the Society of American Florists, was active in the Utah Floral Association, and was a member of the Ogden Lions Club for over 25 years.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Aiko; four sons and their wives, David and Donna, Denver, CO; Robert and Michelle, Stafford, VA; Keith, Salt Lake City; and Michael and Debbie, Layton; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
