Jimmy Dean Young
November 12, 1929 ~ March 7, 2017
ROY – Jimmy Dean Young beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather at age 87, passed away in the arms of his loving wife on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, due to complications from surgery. Jimmy was born to James Hale and Pearl Young in Ririe, ID, on November 12, 1929.
His passion was his wife and family. Jimmy married the love of his life Donna Irene Hawkins on June 1, 1947, in Idaho Falls, ID. Jimmy and Donna met at the Dancing Pavilion and she taught him to dance and they have never stopped dancing. They were sweethearts, best friends, and she was the love of his life for 70 years. They were blessed with three wonderful children, Sandra Kay Shaw, Douglas Dean Young (Judy deceased), and Diana Chitwood (Alan).
Jimmy was the life of the party. He shared his stories, jokes, and especially his love without restraint. His sense of humor was legendary; he was always eager to share it, along with his infectious laugh. There were no strangers to Jimmy. He loved people and they loved him right back. He had a heart of gold and a favorite saying he shared every day, "I have the best family; if everybody had the life I had, and children as good as I have, there would be no problems and the world would be a better place." He was strong but gentle, the quickest to action, and the most patient. Of all his incredible traits the greatest was his overwhelming pride and love for his family. God must have needed another man's man up in heaven and he got one of the best.
Jimmy cherished taking his family hunting, fishing, camping, waterskiing, boating, golfing, snowmobiling, and dancing. One of his favorite pass times was playing cards, win or lose, he always had a great time. He enjoyed traveling with his many close friends to Hawaii, Alaska, and Mexico or in his fifth wheel throughout the western states. He would say his friends are his family away from home.
As a young man Jimmy worked the farms in Swan Valley, ID. He moved to Utah and started working at the Naval Supply Depot. After the Depot closed he started his own business, JD Young & Son Landscaping. He was Master Chief Petty Officer in the Seabee Naval Reserves for twenty five years. He retired after thirty five years from Hill Air Force Base.
He was active in the Elks and served as Chaplain. He enjoyed giving the prayer and donated much of his time doing charity projects.
Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife, children, nine grandchildren nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, and brother Don Young. He is preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law and beautiful daughter-in-law Judy.
