Our beloved mother and grandmother, Jo-Anne Marguerite Campbell Gardner, 84, died peacefully at her home, Sunday, August 31, 2014, of causes incident to age.

She was born July 4, 1930, a daughter of George Albert and Lydia Campbell, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was raised and educated in Salt Lake City, graduating from East High School in 1947.

On September 15, 1948, Jo-Anne married her “All-American” Vern B. Gardner, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.  She watched and cheered at countless ball games throughout her lifetime, starting at the University of Utah, to the Philadelphia Warriors, to the Star Valley Braves and on to the Bonneville Lakers.  She lived in Salt Lake City, Philadelphia, PA, Afton, WY, and the last 54 years in South Ogden, UT.  Vern died August 26, 1987.

She was a member of the LDS Pleasant Valley 3 rd Ward and served in many callings over the years, including faithful visiting teacher.

Jo-Anne worked several years as a secretary at H. Guy Child Elementary School, but her main job was outstanding homemaker and wonderful mother and grandmother. She has a sweet, loving and accepting spirit that radiated to all she came in contact with. She spent over 60 years in loving care of her beloved son, Vernie.

She loved ball games, movies, musicals, traveling, going out to lunch, attending kids and grandkids activities, and last but not least, GOLF! Her special “golf buddies” brought her many years of exercise, laughter and love!

Though she loved all of her children equally, a special bond was formed with her son, Alan, her full-time care giver the last few years of her life.

Jo-Anne is survived by her children, Karen (Jeff) Johnson, Washington Terrace; Alan (Chris Antonio Meza) Gardner, South Ogden; Bret (Alan Taylor) Gardner, Oakland, CA; Jan (Johnny) Smith, Hooper; Chene Gardner, Draper; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, eight step-great grandchildren; two special sisters-in-law, Cumora Miles, Genevieve Bullard; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern, son, Vernie, her parents, one brother, Dern Campbell, and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Pleasant Valley 3 rd Ward Chapel, 5640 South 850 East, South Ogden.
