Joan "Jone" Pett Douglass
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend passed away unexpectedly from complications due to surgery on February 3, 2013 at McKay Dee Hospital surrounded by her loving family and close friends.
Jone was born on August 13, 1944 in Ogden, Utah to Harold H. and Helen R. Pett. She graduated from Ben Lomond High School and attended BYU. She married Richard S. Douglass on May 15, 1965 and they spent nearly 48 memorable years together. They had two children, M Scott (Lisa) Douglass and Jodie (Jason) Voorhees and her cherished and only Grandson Ryan S. Douglass.
She retired from Weber State University Bookstore after 17 years, where she formed many lifelong friendships. After their retirements, Jone and Richard were inseparable and attended numerous sporting events. They are avid Weber State fans. Jone and Richard supported all of their children''s numerous school activities and athletic events. Jone volunteered in many ways throughout her life including: Cub Scouts, PTA President, Teacher''s Aide, Ben Lomond Booster Club President and the Ogden Nature Center.
Some of Jone''s favorite pastimes included spending time with family and friends at their cabin. She loved going to Bear Lake, the Sand Dunes, enjoying weekly lunches with the girls, her morning Sudoku, movies with her husband and spending time with her Grandson.
Jone was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed doing her Visiting Teaching.
She enjoyed traveling with her lifelong friends on annual vacations from Boston to Hawaii, and everyone that met her had a friend for life. She continued giving by donating her organs to the University of Utah for research.
Jone is survived by her husband, Richard; Children, Grandson, Mother, Sisters, Jill (Kim) Moore and Jana Hill (Eric Hamilton); many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts and uncles, and the Anderson''s whom we consider family.
She was preceded in death by her Father, both sets of Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles.
Mom thank you for your example, dedication and the love you showed to us all! We love you a "hundred million!"
We would be remiss if we didn''t mention her famous chocolate cake!
A Meet and Greet will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary at 3408 Washington Boulevard. Jone will be laid to rest at Lindquist''s Washington Height Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
