Joan H. Draper
OGDEN - Joan Hill Draper, 63, our beautiful mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, teacher and friend was called home to be with her eternal companion on Wednesday, March 11, 2009.
She was born May 21, 1945 in Ogden, a daughter of Claude T. and Clara Anderson Hill.
On December 14, 1967, Joan married R. Glen Draper in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Glen preceded her in death on February 17, 2003.
She was raised and educated in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School and Weber State University with a Master’s Degree in education.
Joan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many callings.
She was a dedicated elementary school teacher for over 30 years for Weber School District and at the time of her death, was working for Davis School District.
Joan was active for over 18 years on local and state hospital volunteer boards and was currently serving in leaderships positions. She enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, traveling and was happiest serving others. Most of all, she loved being with her family and friends.
Surviving are one son and one daughter, Michael T. (Shannon) Draper and Emily (Thad) Okerlund; and six grandchildren, Tanica, Brooke and Damon Draper; Hunter, Kaycee and Sage Okerlund.
Also surviving are her mother, Clara Hill and one sister, Linda Hansing.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband and her father.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Sunday from 4:30 to 8 p.m. and Monday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Joan’s name be made to The Children’s Tree House Museum, 347 – 22nd Street Ogden, UT 84401.
